Q: I didn’t upgrade my pledge, why do I have these Pledge Upgrade charges in my survey?

A: Apologies for the confusion. Those aren’t Pledge Upgrades! Those are handling and freight charges for your pledge rewards. Unfortunately, the Backerkit pledge manager and survey system doesn’t let us change the words “Pledge Upgrades” to read “Handling.”

Q: Why did you charge me handling?

A: If we could afford it, we wouldn’t charge you handling at all! But like a lot of publishers, we pay a third party to receive shipments from our manufacturer, put your stuff in boxes, and send it to you. They charge us for that.

Q: What is the extra $.50 added to the price of each Add-On item?

A: That’s the handling charge for Add-Ons that we get charged by our fulfillment consolidator, the company that fills your boxes with the good stuff and ships them to you.

Q: I’m a U.S. Backer, why is my U.S. shipping so high?

A: Apologies for the confusion, but the good news is that’s it’s probably not that high! Did you apply the Media Mail discount we put in your pledge description?

For example, if you got the Big Three ($60) you’re survey should list shipping as $17.45 and, at a glance, that’s scary. However, the pledge description also contains a Media Mail discount of -$7.62.

After you complete this (hypothetical) survey and before we charge you, we’re going to remove $7.62 from the shipping.

A U.S. backer who chose the Big Three and didn’t get any Add-Ons will only be charged a total of $9.83 for shipping ($17.45 - $7.62 = $9.83)

Q: Why did you add $.50 to the price of each Add-On?

A: We think it’s important to charge you handling only on your items and nothing else.

But Backerkit’s pledge manager simply doesn’t do handling for Add-Ons well. Backerkit will pre-calculate a shipping and handling charge for a pledge package, but it lacks any ability to add a small handling fee on the fly for each Add-On (and only the Add-Ons) you choose.

Our solution is to add the handling cost to each Add-On’s price, making your handling charge as accurate and inexpensive as possible.

Q: I’m a U.S. backer, why don’t I see the Media Mail discount in my pledge manager?

A: Not every pledge needs a Media Mail discount as a line item. For the All-In pledge level and higher we could “bake it in.” For every other U.S. backer the Media Mail discount is in your pledge description as a line item. You have to complete your survey without the discount showing in your numbers, and we will apply the discount before we charge you after the survey & pledge manager close on August 8th.

Q: I’m a non-U.S. backer, why don’t I get the Media Mail Discount?

A: Unfortunately, cheaper shipping rates for books (Media Mail) is provided by the United States Postal Service.

Q: I don’t understand the numbers in my pledge manager, can you explain them to me?

A: Sure! First, we apologize for the confusion, but all the pledge manager and survey software out there has limitations. Backerkit included, and believe it or not, Backerkit has the least limitations.

That means, for example, we can’t label your handling charge as a handling charge. We have to put it in the “Pledge Upgrade” section. So, it’s confusing, we understand. Hopefully, the following example helps clear it all up.

Here’s what you might expect to see if you were ordering online from a big company like Amazon, instead of becoming a Kickstarter backer. Let’s assume you added 3 items as Add-Ons that cost a total of $60.

Pledge Cost $190.00
Add-Ons $60.00
Shipping $33.00
Handling $15.00
———————-
Subtotal $298
Media Mail Discount to Shipping (-$12.37)
———————–
Total $285.63

BUT, since we’re not a big online store with our own warehousing department like Amazon, but we still want to give you the cheaper media mail rate for your books and only charge the actual handling needed for your exact order…

AND Backerkit’s pledge manager and survey system simply won’t let us break it out for you on your screen the way I typed it above, here is what you actually see:

Pledge Cost $190
Pledge Upgrades $1.13 (Media Mail Discount invisibly built in)
Add-Ons $61.50
Shipping $33.00
————————
Total $285.63 (Not shown on your screen)
Pledged amount ($190)
Balance $95.63

It’s EXACTLY the same.

Q: I’m a non-US backer, why are you charging me VAT?

A: You may or may not realize it, but in many non-US countries you’re always being charged VAT, and the amount is just baked into the price. We have to charge VAT tax just like any vendor, but due to the limitations of Backerkit, we have to display that VAT tax on its own line item at the end of the survey.

What if I don't want so many Player's Guides?

We added extra Player’s Guides as a bonus, our gift to the higher pledge levels. Player’s Guides are convenient because they minimize how much GMs need to pass the Grimmerspace Setting and Adventures core book around the gaming table. Less time sharing the core book means a faster start and more time playing! Because it was added as a bonus you cannot exchange it for credit or products.

The Player’s Guide is a softcover book that contains just enough information to ground your players in the Grimmerspace setting and duplicates player options from the core book for their convenience.

What is the minimum level I have to pledge at if I just want to get add-ons?

You have to pledge at least the Digital Space pledge level to purchase add-ons.

Do I need to own any Starfinder books to use Grimmerspace?

Yes. At minimum, you will either need the Starfinder Core Rulebook or the Starfinder Beginner Box. Both are available via backer Tiers as part of this campaign.

What if I only want the Immersive Battle Maps book?

Simply back the $40 “Just the Battle Maps Book” pledge.

Last updated: June 21, 2019 12:14

What if I want more than one Immersive Battle Maps book?

If you want more than one Battle Maps book, back the “Just the Battle Maps Book” tier for a higher amount, and then add your additional Battle Maps books in the Backerkit pledge manager after the Kickstarter ends.

Last updated: June 21, 2019 12:14

Will the Starfinder Beginner Box and Core Rulebook be available as Add-Ons?

We’re sincerely sorry, but at this time we are unable to offer the Beginner Box and Core Rulebook as Add-Ons.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
