Grimmerspace | Spring Update

Dear Backers,

Just an update to let you know we're here and still working. With the digital release to backers of the Grimmerspace Player Options in our rearview, we've moved into getting the Setting section of the core rulebook out the door to you in PDF.

As of this update, Grimmerspace: Setting consists of 5 main sections:

6.0 Adventuring in Grimmerspace
7.0 Polities of the Crux
8.0 Edge Space
9.0 Galactic Organizations
10.0 Citizens of the Galaxy

We will provide the anticipated release date for Grimmerspace: Setting once we finalize all five chapters, and the text heads into layout.

As always we deeply appreciate your continued patience, support, and understanding. While we have updated explanations for our string of hard-to-fathom missed deadlines, we have no excuses so we'll spare you. All that matter to us is getting your your books, and that when we do they're better than you expected.

GRIMMERSPACE|End of Summer Update

Just a short update to let you know where we are on our latest targets.

SUMMARY OF PROGRESS

In our first summer update we anticipated getting Player Options into layout by the start of August and in your hands by the end of August. We were partially successful. 

We completed the five chapters of Player Options -- comprising Intro, Descents, Classes, Equipment, and Starships -- and sent them into layout in August, as planned. 

Our layout artist's schedule changed for the worse, so we tackled it ourselves. While the learning curve was steep, we expect to have the PDF of Player Options to you around the end of the month.

A NOTE ON COLOR

We've decided that the size of Grimmerspace Settings & Adventures warrants additional bookmarking. To that end we chose green for Player Options. Setting will take on purple tones, reflecting the Seethe, and we'll keep Adventures in the same blue tone used in Abattoir 8.

GRIMMERSPACE|An Abbreviated August Update

We thought you might appreciate a brief note filling you in on the latest developments. We currently plan on sticking to our bi-monthly update schedule, so we haven't updated the project tracker yet. You'll definitely see that next time!

Summary of Progress

As you’ve heard us explain before, the Grimmerspace core book has expanded into three different sections, each of book length. These are: Player Options, Setting, and Adventures.

Keeping to our planned release schedule, we're giving you each section in PDF form first, before going to print, starting with Player Options.  Thisincludes a Gliding Rim Galaxy overview, plus all the descents (formerly races), classes, equipment, the ABCs of interstellar travel, and starships.

Player Options We're pleased to report all approximately 128 pages of Player Options have left final development and are making their way through the proofing chain. We feel we're on track to hit our goal of getting this section into layout this month.

Xeno Files We are a little behind on putting an updated Xeno Files PDF in your hands. On reviewing the book, we decided to commission additional art. Rone contracted the artists, and they've all turned in their work. Rone also gave the book a line-by-line edit, and together we've rewritten significant sections in light of backer feedback. Lou taught him self InDesign and all the changes are now in layout.  We expect to hand over the updated Xeno Files PDF around the same time we upload the Player Options PDF. 

Breaking News 

Paizo just officially announced they'll be launching a playtest for Starfinder 2nd Edition. You can read about it on their blog. While Paizo has already posted an early snippet of their playtest, which they're calling Starfinder Field Tests, their full playtest launches in the Summer of 2024. This is just a guess, but we wouldn't expect to see 2nd Edition before 2025. Now that they've officially announced, we can go get all the details and, of course, will be following this closely.

That said, after publishing and shipping to backers, we at the very least commit to creating a free PDF conversion guide for everything Grimmerspace. It remains too early to say whether or not we will release a 2.0 version in PDF or print, but we will keep you posted as the playtest schedule and Paizo's publishing plans become clear.

While this took us by surprise (we were assured by folks we know at Paizo there were no plans for Starfinder 2.0), we're excited to hear our friend and colleague Thurston (Thirsty) Hillman gets to oversee this project as Managing Creative Director of Starfinder. It'll be a great chance to work closely with him again. Congrats Thirsty!
